The Art of John Pierro
"Blowing in the Wind"
August 2007
Stoneware/Maple base
15"X22"X13"
I was listening to Bob Dillon while I worked on this piece. The idea already was there, and the sculpture was almost complete, but then the song "Blowing in the Wind" came on, and the title just seemed to fit. The figure sits a top a small piece of land, mortally wounded, but still holding the flag for which he sacrificed his life for. His once strong body is now broken, his gaze is distant as maybe he sits and recounts the path that has brought him to where is now is. I envision him waiting for the wind to come and unfurl the flag and take his soul to be enlightened.
